We all knew about the walkout on March 14, but that was not enough. Students want to be able to know that they are safe at school. After the Parkland, Florida shooting, students have had enough and demanded to take matters into their own hands.
The National School Walkout took place on April 20, to honor the anniversary of the Columbine High School massacre and the 13 people who died. ABC states, “The event was organized by 16-year-old Lane Murdock, a sophomore at Ridgefield High School in Connecticut, along with three of her classmates.” More…
The Earth is one of a kind; it’s the only known planet that is capable of sustaining life and has the ability to sustain several different climates. Our planet has been able to withstand thousands of years of innovation and discovery, as well as the human race picking it apart slowly. We should celebrate every day to honor the complex planet that is and always will be home.
There is actually a day set aside to celebrate our home planet; Earth Day is April 22. This holiday is usually celebrated by planting a tree or a small plant, but lately, it’s also had clean-ups in its honor. There were beach and park cleanups in Huntington Beach last weekend to commemorate the occasion. More…
Leadership was holding their very first Spring Fling, and Stacey apparently wasn’t buzzing with excitement.
The leadership classroom had planned a Spring Fling, but it was entirely different from the “pictured” Spring Fling in the classic Mean Girls movie. Stacey’s Spring Fling would not be a dance but would be more similar to a fall fest. There would’ve been barbeque, music, and games.
“I’m really excited for it,” said eighth-grader Aiyanna Dejacimo before the event was canceled. “I’m looking forward to just hanging out with friends after school.” More…
Every year, students in grades fifth and seventh have to partake in the often dreaded Physical Fitness Test, where the teachers test each and every student on their physical abilities. Well, that time came for all students in seventh grade that happen last week for seventh-graders at Stacey Middle School.
There were several different abilities that were tested including the sit and reach, curl-ups, the mile run, and push-ups. Besides that, they also took the students’ height and weight.
For things such as the curl-ups, push-ups, and the mile run, every student has to reach a certain goal, which varies due to gender. More…
As many of you know, administrators announced last year that they would be constructing a gymnasium. Originally estimated to be done by December, the construction was extended to April due to the rain throughout the 2016-2017 school year.
Current end dates are now set for early May. The construction team has worked double time to finish before the end of the school year. Students and staff have their fingers crossed for eighth-grade graduation in June.
Due to construction, student pick-up and drop-off have been challenging. Over spring break the construction workers made a path leading to the park which makes it easier and safer for parents and students. More…
Students in Mrs. Doyle’s Math 7A just completed a project to supply her classroom with containers for all of her markers. The plan was to make the containers for her whiteboards. The problem was that she needed to know the perfect size and capacity of each container. It was up to the students to decide.
First, the students received a Google doc explaining the situation. Then, they had to decide if they wanted to work in a group of three or work alone.
The students started making a plan. There were many things to consider, such as what material will be used, how many markers it will be able to carry, and what will be the measurements. More…
Days before National Kick Butts day plenty of people were jumping for joy as they were getting ready for the day March 21st, 2018. On kickbuttsday.org a blog posted by Gustavo Torrez stated, “Tomorrow, advocates across the United States and around the world will stand out, speak up, and seize control against Big Tobacco with creative, impactful events.”
What is the point??
Most people get the wrong message when they hear “Kick Butts Day” they don’t realize that it means cigarette butts. That’s right Kick Butts Day is “a national day of activism that empowers youth to stand out, speak up and seize control against Big Tobacco,” according to kickbuttsday.org.
The whole point in National Kick Butts Day is to raise awareness of the problem that tobacco is being used by kids in certain areas, maybe even the one you live in now. Although there is only one official day titled “National Kick Butts Day” the organizers of these events are trying to gets this noticed as an everyday thing instead of a once a year thing. More…
