Dylan Weber
I love America, and so should you. Not because of the government, but because of the rich history and culture. The American Spirit is strong and glorious. The people of America are mighty and full of life. Culture. America has an immense amount of it.
From California to Kansas to New York, the people and souls are different. New York, for example, is known for its Italian based society, California for its beaches and hot summers, Kansas for countrysides and southern fire.
But what these each individual states all have in common is that they are all in the US. Yet they are all extremely different from one another. The culture of America as a whole is that people from all corners of the world can build a new life.
A greater one. It doesn’t matter who you are. Gay or straight, black or white, man or woman, all have opportunities they can take and construct a whole career off of it. The American spirit is the strongest in the world. It represents the want and need to persevere through thick and thin.
People have fought and died to hold up the freedom and liberty America offers. They continue to fight for our right for free speech, to defend from foreign tyranny and to protect the families of the United States.
We are one of the only countries where you can express your true opinion. You’re allowed to say you hate the president, and that’s a GOOD thing. Black people stood up for themselves in the fifties and sixties and continue to do so.
Women fought for rights in the 1800s. We had a civil war and fought each other to free the millions of slaves. Gay people earned their right to marry.
There’s such a huge fire inside of American people that when we’re bored we fight that Rudolph the red nosed reindeer is sexist. The rest of the world has their eyes on us, to see what we will do next.
Personally, I’m excited yet scared to see what the future holds. America is driving the car of humanity. I wonder where we’re going to go next. I love America, and so should you.
America is good. But Canada is much better. Legalization of gay marriage was done 13 years before the US. The economy is much better. They have free health care. The education is much better. Not that America is bad, Canada is just better. Worse weather though lol.

In order to get any health care a man named Steven Crowder had to wait days in order to get his blood checked. His friend had a broken wrist from skateboarding and had to wait 17 hours in order for someone to see him and refer him to a doctor. In fact, the person working there referred them to a private doctor. Not to add that universal healthcare is a disaster in itself. But it is true that education as a whole is broken. Yes, legalization of gay marriage is good, but the government shouldn’t have a say in marriage at all.

That’s a hypocritical statement because the government had a huge statement of gay marriage in America. In fact, they are pretty much the reason why it took over a decade to get it legalized.

I don’t understand the problem with income inequality. If you don’t like the gap between you and successful people, don’t whine about it. Work hard and give effort in order to achieve your dreams. Fun fact, wealth doesn’t just come to you. Maybe people can stop moping and whining so they could work hard and achieve greatness.

I don’t like living in this country. Well, I do, because of all our opportunities and we are perfectly healthy and not totally poverty ridden, but the problem is that there are one too many idiots in this country that are going around, and sadly some of them go to this school as well. I also got a little problem with many social standpoints, like white supremacist groups and other groups that advocate specifically against the rights for many groups. So I do, and I don’t. Sue me.

Sorry America, but Sweden is better.

How so? Could you provide evidence to that claim?
LikeLike
Since when did opinions require evidence? Anyway, here are some examples of why I see Sweden as the real paradise:
– peaceful (no crimes, shootings, etc),
– nice people (unlike present-day America’s divided racial matters),
– and most importantly; clean and pure environment (America is clean, but Sweden is pretty much all of mother nature’s beauty)

Sweden has extremely large taxes, which cause them to live a more simplistic way of life, instead of buying cool cars and quarter pound hamburgers.

Sweden has a dramatically lower population, America is the least polluted industrialized nation, and how do you know that Swedish people are nicer? Have you been there? I went to Arizona and the people were the nicest they could be. An opinion does require evidence, that’s like saying you like something for no reason.

I am torn because I like this debate but I also want it to be peaceful. All well,
Swedish peoples have a wonderful healthcare system, but how do they pay for this? High taxes, specifically 61.85 percent of their annual income. This compares to America’s range of 10% to 35%, based on the person’s income. This means that the rich pay more than the poor in America. So, what would you propose to do to America to make it better? Remember, talking about problems without a solution does not solve anything. In fact, it has a special name: whining.
LikeLike
You’re not providing evidence for America being the greatest nation on earth. America doesn’t even come close to being the greatest. America has literally no special aspects. We don’t have an important culture, the only thing America celebrates as a whole is Christmas, and even then not everyone in America celebrates it. Where did you get the idea that New York has “Italian based society”? The population of New York is largely inhabited by Italian Americans, and they’ve brought some of their culture and traditions to New York, but that doesn’t make New York have an Italian based society. Kansas is probably one of the least interesting places to ever go in your life. Countrysides don’t sound like a great place to go sightseeing if you’re in Kansas. America is no longer a place where all people can just come on over and start a new life. Trump is making sure that immigrants can’t get in. That “culture of America” you were talking about no longer exists as long as Donald Trump is our president. America isn’t a place where everyone is equal, either. Women are sexually abused and people of the LGBT community are harassed for being themselves. Every state in the U.S, no matter which one, always has some sort of racial tendency. We’re not fighting against foreign tyranny if our very own president is making deals with Putin and betraying his own country for Russia. In America, we may be able to express our true opinions and have free speech, but that doesn’t mean we’re always heard. If people were listened to on women’s marches or things like that, then women would be equal to men and there wouldn’t be gun violence in America. Women fought for rights in the 1800s, sure, but women only got the right to vote in 1920. And it took a whole lot of convincing for that to happen. Gay people didn’t “earn” their right to marry. All they could do was hope that at some point, that law would be revoked. The same-sex marriage law was only approved as of June 26, 2015. Americans have a huge fire to fight about incredibly stupid things, like Rudolph being sexist. Only a select few have enough brain cells to comprehend the fact that there are so many more things worth fighting for. America is driving the car of delusion, and the only place it’s driving us is the next Great Depression.

My apologies but you are a hypocrite. You have not provided any statistics about your country of choice where as I have provided plenty about America and against Sweden. Also America is called “the melting pot” because we have everything! To be stereotypical, sweden has no racism because everyone’s WHITE!!! Also America celebrates the following: Independence day, MLK day, Lincoln and Washington’s Birthday, 9/11, and many others. Also, why do you attack Trump? Your not going to win that one, Dylan’s literally wearing a make America great again hat. Also, Trump helped the economy grow 5 PERCENT. Unemployment is it’s lowest in America’s history so were extremely far away from another Great Depression. Would you propose another political leader to be in charge? As long as there are political parties in America the country will be divided. I already stated Mr. Yohn has told us the average American Man makes $0.97 to every american female’s dollar. Also would you consider yourself one of those Americans with a lack of brain cells?

Aiden, if your comment was to Andie, her comment wasn’t being hypocritical. She is just stating an obvious truth. She isn’t attacking Trump. She is being honest; Trump has said many things against women. For example, he said, “Grab ’em by the p****.” That isn’t something a president should say about women. You can personally talk to me about these issues. I mean, Trump is the one who’s been sexualizing his daughter. Personally, if I had a choice, I would want Hillary as our president. Also, with her, it’s been proven that those emails are fake and the only reason people didn’t like her is because of her husband.

First off Trump doesn’t want ILLEGAL Immigrants not coming in. Not the legal ones. Women can make an amazing life despite the fact that they can be sexually assaulted. You are wrong, racial profiling is gone and if not very minimal in all of US history. Gays did earn their right to marry, they held protests. America probably has the least delusion, for example, Canada has socialized healthcare, that’s extremely delusional. You point out things from the past. That isn’t an argument.

There will unfortunately always be gun violence in America, it is remotely impossible to stop it. The LGBT community is often known for trying to silence rallies and speeches given by conservative public speakers, kind of like terrorists. Women are equal to men and in some areas privileged.

That’s honestly an unfair statement, Dylan. I don’t know where you got that information from, but you should not be putting a certain group of people (especially one that I’m a part of) and putting us against a certain political party. When you say the LGBT community, you mean EVERY person within it. Please don’t target us specifically, it really looks unintelligent.

Since my name was used to support Aiden’s point, let me clarify a brief talk we had in my class. One point made was that America is one of the best, if not the best, nation in regards to women’s rights and advancement. Regarding the pay gap, I mentioned that it is disputed that there is truly a gap based off of prejudice and cited a Google study showing that its male employees were paid less than its female employees. https://www.entrepreneur.com/article/329581
Keep up the debate and keep it Civil. It appears that many of the claims to which country is better is based off of subjective feelings. Maybe you guys could hit a certain aspect (topic) at a time. Example: Which country is the most environmentally clean? Which country is best for religious minorities? Which county is best for immigrants? Which country is best for the LGBT community?
You will probably find mixed results. On some measurements, our country is on top, on others less so.
I enjoy these relevant articles. Keep them coming C-Chronicle.

Well it will destroy some farm land and the people who live there will force Congress to take it down. So it’s bad.
LikeLike
Could you specify how much farmland will be destroyed? If congress builds this wall they can give farmland to people, I believe. From an economic standpoint, though, yes, it does seem bad.
LikeLike
There are people who own farms that are on both sides of the border. Putting a wall slant in the middle will destroy the farms. And no, a door won’t do anything, that completely defeats Trump’s purpose to get rid of illegal immigrants. Which BY THE WAY most illegal immigrants travel by boat or plane, it’s very rare that they make it here on foot. So yes, the wall is absolutely useless.

Gavin, people are allowed to go back and forth between Mexico and America. As long as they have legal papers, they can live in America. All I think they need is a “pass go”. Also, you have not provided evidence for that claim and yes I think that needs to be worked out. The wall would be in heavily populated areas like the California border. I think immigration is good, but it should be controlled.
