There are so many elective choices for the upcoming year here at Stacey. We have advanced art, band, broadcast journalism, AVID, instructional aide, leadership, Spanish, technology, theater arts, videography, the wheel, advanced woodshop, yearbook, marine biology, and robotics. There are so many choices.
Some may wonder what each elective is about, so here is a rundown:
Advanced Art– In order to take advanced art you must have completed beginning art in either 6th or 7th grade. This is a year-long elective and not a trimester elective. Mrs. Karsh teachers this elective in H2.
Band– There is a band, advanced band, and zero period band which are all year long. Band is taught by Mr. Woodruff in the band room. There are concerts for band students who get the chance to play at other schools and special places. To sign up for band you do not need to know how to play an instrument.
Broadcast Journalism– This is a yearlong elective is taught by Ms. Walters in B-3. Broadcast Journalism is in charge of the Cougar Chronicle. They make lots of interesting stories, polls, and videos. They are also in charge of the announcements. You can only get into this elective by application.
AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination)- This is a year-long elective run by a group of teachers at Stacey. AVID students go on many field trips throughout the year to colleges all over orange county. AVID is an academic class that will help prepare you for high school, college, and beyond.
Instructional Aide– In instructional aide, you will be assisting teachers at Stacey or Clegg. There are limited spaces and this elective is run by application.
Leadership– Leadership is also run by application. Leadership is in charge of organizing dances and other afterschool events such as fall fest. Leadership is a year-long elective that is run by Mrs. Doyle in D-1.
Spanish- Spanish is taught by Mrs. Valverde in G4-A. This is a year-long elective that does not need an application. There are many fun projects and parties that go on in Spanish.
Technology- Technology focuses on your computer skills. You work on presentations, coding, and more.
Theater arts– Theater arts is a year-long elective for those of you who love the stage. You will work on singing, skits, and script writing. This elective is taught by Mrs. Sale and not run by West Arts Productions.
Videography– Videography makes video announcements each week to be shown on Mondays at the beginning of homeroom. Videography needs people who know how to use a camera and edit videos. This is a year-long elective that needs application. The class is run by Mr. Andrews.
The Wheel– The wheel is an elective choice for 6th and 7th graders. In the wheel, you will get a new elective each trimester which may or may not affect your schedule. The 6th-grade wheel consists of college and career readiness, beginning woodshop, and beginning art. The 7th-grade wheel consists of STEM, beginning woodshop, and beginning art.
Advanced Woodshop– In order to be in advance woodshop you need to have done beginning woodshop in 6th or 7th grade. This elective is only open to 7th and 8th grades. This elective is year long and taught by Mr. Olmscheid.
Yearbook– Yearbook is a year-long elective offered to students by application. Students in yearbook are given cameras to take pictures for the Stacey yearbook. Yearbook students are in charge of designing and putting together the yearbook every year. Mrs. Phan runs the yearbook elective.
Marine Biology– Marine Biology is a new elective offered for the first time this year. Marine Biology is offered to 7th and 8th-grade students. You will be able to study life underwater and learn more about ocean creatures. Mrs. Toler will be teaching this class.
Robotics– Robotics is a year-long elective taught by Mrs. Winemiller. You will be able to build your own robotic inventions and learn more about how robotics work.
There are so many fun and new electives to take for the 2018-2019 school year. Choose wisely, Cougars, there is no choosing again.
