Singer Fergie sang the national anthem prior to The 67th NBA All-Star Game: Team LeBron Vs. Team Stephen at Staples Center on February 18, 2018, in Los Angeles, California.

The Black Eyed Peas star said she’s “been honored and proud to perform the national anthem and last night I wanted to try something special for the NBA,” according to People.

“I’m a risk taker artistically, but clearly this rendition didn’t strike the intended tone,” Fergie said. “I love this country and honestly tried my best.”

Fergie was dragged on social media for her version of the “Star Spangled Banner,” even by those who acknowledged that it can be an incredibly difficult song to sing.

Some theorized that with her sultry rendition, Fergie was attempting to emulate an iconic All-Star national anthem that was better received.

  1. To be honest, as bad as it was, most the people criticizing her would never be brave enough to sing in front of so many people. She tried something new and it didn’t go so well. That’s no reason to be cruel.
