Mariah Escatel

Every month students in Mrs. Ortega’s eighth-grade honors language arts class are required to read a specific genre and take an AR test on that book by the end of each month.

“It can be a chore, especially when it’s a really boring boo, but reading genres that I don’t normally read like, classical books, kind of opened my eyes to see that it doesn’t have to be a YA book to be interesting,” said Kylie Brennan, an 8th graders in Mrs. Ortegas eighth period honors class.

There are so many holidays celebrated in winter. When most of us think of winter break, we think of Christmas, but for a lot of other people, there are Diwali, Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa, Chinese New Year, Santa Lucia Day, Three King’s Day, Winter Solstice, and New Years.

Diwali

Diwali is a five day, Hindus Holiday that ¨celebrates the triumph of good over evil, light over darkness, and knowledge over ignorance,¨ says the BBC. The people who celebrate Diwali love to clean their homes and open up their windows so the Goddess of Wealth, Lakshmi, can come in. Some of the Activities people do during Diwali are making paper chain links and paper flower garlands, create chalk designs on their doorstep, mold clay, play Indian music, and make sweet treats. Diwali is the most important holiday celebrated in India. More…

Those who live in the Huntington Beach know that we live in an amazing area. Beautiful weather, a nice atmosphere, and only a five-minute drive to the beach. The people of Huntington Beach are truly lucky to live where they live.

However, no place in the world is entirely perfect. There are problems in Huntington Beach as there are anywhere else in the universe. One of these problems is getting out of hand. As coyotes grow in population and grow in comfortability, this problem makes itself more well known.

As previously mentioned, the coyotes in Huntington Beach are well known at this point and are beginning to seem regular. Let it be known that simply because you become used to a problem, doesn’t mean it no longer is one. More…

The 3DS is smaller than the Switch. Its ability to change to the third dimension is what really makes the 3DS enjoyable for all ages.

The Nintendo 3DS was first introduced in February 2011, and it was a successor after Nintendo 2DS and Nintendo 3DS XL. There are some accessories people can use to help visual gameplay or to have a bigger memory to store more games. More…

However, these days Disney Channel is filling up their show list with a mess of random shows like, “Bizzardvark” and “Bunk’d” and “Stuck in the Middle.” Sadly, these shows are less relatable and less satisfying in general. More…

What Happened To The $5 Footlong? 1

Screenshot 2017-12-19 at 9.24.15 AMGavin Mercado

Ah yes, we all remember when that $5 footlong song got stuck in our heads. Eventually, though, it seemed to just disappear. What happened to the $5 footlong?

Before we get too far into this, I just want to make sure everyone knows what a $5 footlong was. It was a sandwich deal that Subway made. A sandwich that was well, a foot long. Obviously the footlong is still at subway, but it’s now sold for $6.99.

Now let’s get into the juicy stuff. Many Subway franchise owners are suing Subway corporate office because they claim, “Profits are dropping.” These franchise owners want the $5 dollar footlong back.

They think this great deal will attract a lot more customers. But the $5 footlong ended February 2016. So why are they suing now? More…
