Martin Luther King is a popular historical figure that even has his own holiday! Most people believe he made a difference in the world. Many know him a man who talked about his dreams and tried to make America great.
He was also a Baptist minister. In case you were wondering what a Baptist minister is, it’s a person who is “a member of a Christian denomination that baptizes believers by immersion and that is usually Calvinistic in doctrine.”
Dr. King is also known for giving inspirational speeches. One of these was a letter from Birmingham jail written on April 16, 1963. He also wrote a world-famous speech called the “I Have a Dream.”
Besides all the speeches, he also protested and boycotted against racist organizations. During the mid-1950s, he started a civil rights movement. It ended when he was assassinated in 1968.
James Earl Ray was arrested on June 8, 1969, accused of murdering Martin Luther King Jr.
When Mr. King died, he had accomplished more than many could ever hope to. He made a huge impact in many people’s lives; he changed the way many people looked at people of color.
