Chocolate is a very well liked sweet. However, the sugar amount in each bar is quite hazardous to our health. Each candy bar and brand are manufactured with different amounts of sugar.
However, one brand, Nestle, best known for the Aero chocolate bar, the Crunch chocolate bar, the KitKat bar, as well as the Butterfinger chocolate bar, has decided to cut down the sugar amount while still keeping the same flavor. Some
On Wednesday, Nestle announced their researchers had found a much more potent sugar variant, allowing their candy to remain almost identical in taste while potentially cutting down on its sugar content by up to 40%.
The new sugar has a similar outer structure that allows the tastebuds to process the dissolving sugar in the same way. But, the inside structure’s variant contains less sugar, meaning less is ultimately digested.
“It is sugar, but it is assembled differently so it can disassemble easily in your mouth with less going into your gastrointestinal tract,” stated the company’s chief technology officer Stefan Catsicas.
This discovery will make its way into its candies in 2018, as stated in a press release. It will give chocolate lovers a choice.
“It’s up to the person on whether they want to eat it with more sugar or less,” said Oanh Tran, a seventh grader at Stacey.
There are still limits to what this discovery can do though. For example, the sugar can’t be stirred into coffee or used in sodas.
Although not a perfect substitute for sugar, there are many benefits to the new sugar, especially for chocolate lovers.
