With many terrorist attacks happening worldwide recently, there are many questions regarding who are the real terrorists. Many claim that all Muslims are terrorists. Many disagree. Muslim countries such as Syria, Iran, Bahrain, Qatar, Tunisia, and Saudi Arabia have been blamed for being “terrorist countries.” Even with ISIS claiming responsibility for many of the recent terror attacks, such as the Minnesota Mall attack, ISIS are not orthodox Muslims. In the rules of Islam, you cannot murder or steal.  Even if they are Muslim, they would have to kill for a valid purpose in the true understanding of the faith. Islam is a religion of peace, not of terrorism nor violence.

Even with ISIS claiming responsibility for many of the recent terror attacks, such as the Minnesota Mall attack, ISIS are not orthodox Muslims. This is based on the fact that in the rules of Islam, a follower cannot murder or steal.  Even if a person were Muslim, he would have to kill for a valid purpose in the true understanding of the faith. Islam is a religion of peace, not of terrorism nor violence. Abdelrahman al-Rashid, a Muslim and the managing director of Arab news channel Al-Arabiya, stated, “It is a certain fact that not all Muslims are terrorists, but it is equally certain, and exceptionally painful, that almost all terrorists are Muslims” and blamed radical clerics for hijacking the peace-loving and tolerant religion of Islam.

Sikhs, people who believe in the Indian religion of Sikhism, have been killed and abused since they have been confused as being Muslims because they wear turbans.  Sikhism is a monotheistic religion that was founded in the Indian state of Punjab during the 15th century by Guru Nanak. According to the rules of Sikhism, turbans are worn all times to take care of the hair, promote equality, and preserve the Sikh identity. This regulation was made official by Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth official Guru of the Sikhs. Over the years, there has been criticism of Sikhism one way or another by calling them terrorists, which they are not. In Sikh faith, violence is a last resort and peace is always first. According to the Sikh faith, weapons are sacred for they are seen by Sikhs as means to fight so-called evil forces or tyrants. Sikhism is a religion of peace and equality, not of violence. Just because they wear turbans, does not mean they are terrorists.

The question remains who are the real terrorists? The answer is anyone. Terrorist attacks happen everywhere from Azerbaijan to the United States. Terrorists come from everywhere. Terrorists could be of any religion or ethnicity. Although most terrorist attacks come from supposed “Muslims”, yet Muslims by definition are not terrorists. The old axiom you cannot judge a book by its cover applies. Like Leo Tolstoy said, “Muhammad has always been standing higher than the Christianity. He does not consider God as a human being and never makes himself equal to God. Muslims worship nothing except God, and Muhammad is his Messenger. There is no any mystery and secret in it.”

Knowledge is the best antidote to fear. Ignorance is no longer an option.
