Feminism. Some people might think that’s an ugly word. The actual meaning of feminism is the advocacy of women’s rights on the grounds of political, social, and economic equality to men.
But how could something so commonly approved of have such a bad reputation?
When asked what people think feminism means, many will say to make women the superior gender, or according to Emma Dutch, an eighth-grader here at Stacey, “ I think feminism means for all men to die.”
The fact is that some people on the internet are misinterpreting the meaning by posting ridiculous content in the name of feminism. Phrases such as ‘all men must die’ and the like are not uttered in the true spirit of feminism. (And that would end the human race, by the way.)
Understandably, most people don’t know the real definition, and all it takes is one person to misrepresent the whole purpose of feminism, which is simple, equality. Who doesn’t want that?
